Let’s be honest. Traveling does not create the ideal conditions for looking flawless. Often you’re running on little sleep, sleeping in airplane seats, and eating poor quality food. However, there are a few tips I can share to ensure you will look perfect everywhere.
As a frequent traveler, I’m used to having to work around airport security rules for what I can and cannot bring in my carry on bag. The toughest part for me has always been finding the right beauty products that aren’t too large for the carry on, yet will still last for the duration of my trip and actually work how I want them to.
As an adventure traveler, I’ve also tried tons of different makeup products all over the world and tested them in the most extreme conditions. Over the last several years of traveling, I’ve discovered the best travel beauty products out there. These items will keep you looking your best, no matter where you are in the world.
1. VITACOIN’S HAIR, BODY, AND FACE SOAP
Shower essentials are one thing that I can never seem to have enough of when I travel. Plus, because of airport rules, we are limited to the amount of ounces we can pack in a carry on. A great way to get around this is to replace liquids with solids. I use Forest Eden’s soap bars for your hair, body, and face. They come in a pack of 11 soaps, each one handcrafted in different attractive colors derived from natural ingredients; pink comes from pink clay, green from chlorella, purple from beet powder, and the list goes on. The colors and delicate scents will recharge and energize you all day. To share the love, I have a 20% off code, SARAHFUNKY20. Get it on Amazon. Cost: $12.79 (with discount code)
2. PATCHOLOGY FACE MASKS
Did you know that airplanes have a humidity level that is lower than most deserts? This means that during a flight your skin needs to be hydrated more than normal. My rule of thumb to keep my skin looking hydrated and energized is to use a face mask. My favorite is Patchology’s five minute flash mask. Unlike most masks that take 20 minutes to work, these are a speedy. What makes them ideal for flights is that you do not need to wash your face after. You can simply remove the mask, and move on with your life. Get it on Amazon. Cost: $25.50
3. LAVENDER ESSENTIAL OIL
If you’re the type of person that is on the go all the time and has trouble relaxing (like me), then I recommend bringing a little bottle of Lavender oil with you. It has been proven to eliminate nervous tension, relieve pain, enhance blood circulation, and treat respiratory problems. I put a little bit on my neck, chest, wrist, and nose before going to sleep and when I’m on a plane (to relieve any stress from flying). Get it on Amazon. Cost: $24.99
4. COSMEDIX TRAVEL KIT
Flying takes a toll on us – but we don’t have to let it take a toll on our appearance. Cosmedix has these new travel kits with all of the essentials for keeping your skin youthful day and night. In each kit there are four pieces; Benefit Clean (cleanser), Cell ID (nutritive defense serum), Serum 16 (rapid renewal serum), Emulsion (moisturizer). These products are small enough to fit into your pocket, yet last weeks. Plus, they are TSA friendly. Get it on Cosmedix.com. Cost: $40
5. URBAN DECAY ALL NIGHTER LONG-LASTING MAKE-UP SETTING SPRAY
To keep your makeup looking flawless all day, I recommend using Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray. I’ve gone 20+ hours with my makeup looking like I just applied it wearing this. The reason it works so well is because it is created using a temperature control technology. The spray actually lowers the temperature of your makeup to keep foundation, eyeshadow, blush, and concealer in place—even in hot and humid or cold and windy conditions. The result? Smoother-looking skin and vibrant makeup that lasts all day (or night) without melting, cracking, fading, or settling into fine lines. When you buy, make sure to select the one ounce size so that it is TSA friendly. Get it at Sephora. Cost: $15
6. EYE COVER AND EAR PLUGS
If you’re like me, you’re always trying to catch up on sleep when you’re traveling. These two items will significantly help you sleep – resulting in a well-rested and happy you! It has been proven that we sleep better in complete darkness with no sound. Therefore, I never get on a plane without these two items. It helps me sleep (along with the lavender oil), and ensures I am well-rested when I arrive at my destination. Get them on Amazon. Ear Plugs are $13 for 20 pairs. Eye cover is $9.
7. LANCOME LONGWEAR FOUNDATION STICK WITH SPF 21
As a influencer, I get sent a lot of foundations to try and consistently Lancome wins over the others by a landslide. Their long lasting foundation really does last all day and night. Plus, it as SPF in it. Pair it with the Urban Decay setting spray and you could probably go two days still looking flawless. Get it at Lancome. Insider tip: if you buy from Lancome, instead of Bloomingdales, Macy’s or Sephora, you will be able to choose five free Lancome gifts! Cost: $42
8. URBAN DECAY EYESHADOW PRIMER POTION
I can’t get enough of Urban Decay’s primers. They are the only primers I’ve found that actually keeps my eye makeup perfect no matter what I’m doing. Plus it is waterproof (trust me, I’ve tested it thoroughly in all of my adventures!). Get it at Sephora. Cost: $22
9. CARGO COSMETICS SWIMMABLES COLLECTION
Finally, a makeup that actually is swimmable. No matter how much you sweat or swim on a hot day, this makeup will not come off. I particularly love their water resistant blush and bronzer. A great example of how durable this makeup is can be found in my carnival video. I wore this collection for twelve hours of dancing and sweating in the hot sun. By the end of the day it looked like I had just applied it! Get it on Amazon. The blush is $26. The bronzer is $29.
10. HAND SANITIZER
Simple, yet essential, you should not travel anywhere without hand sanitizer. Airplanes are filled with recycled air, the meal trays are rarely cleaned, and transit areas are filled with thousands of people coming and going on a daily basis. Traveling creates the ideal conditions for getting sick. Don’t let it happen and carry hand sanitizer with you! Use it often. Get it on Amazon. Cost: $8.49
