This heart-warming and hilarious tale of kids participating in the ‘bee’ will certainly leave you excited that you didn’t have to learn how to spell words for a living! Now imagine throwing in a few graceful moves and being ridiculously good at singing, and you got a musical; The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, to be more specific.
There is something special about a local theatre; the unity of the community coupled with the home made feel. That’s what we loved about the Astoria Performing Arts Center (APAC). Upon entering the space, it felt as if we had been transported into Putnam County itself. APAC had been transformed into a “gymnasium” to give patrons the feeling that they were part of the school “Bee”.
We were astounded by the pure energy and talent of the cast, who made us feel like we should pick up a dictionary and memorize everything in it, while also tugging at our heart strings through their diverse and rich backgrounds. With an engaging and fun story, we recommend you also be part of this experience. Which reminds me, you can also be part of the performance, just make sure to sign up beforehand to get a chance to show off your spelling skills!
