Known for quite a number of modern artists living there, Williamsburg holds onto 1800s architecture, and bits of the 1970s punk music scene. It used to be known as a hipster hotspot, but these days, you’re more likely to see an expensive restaurant, than graffiti – rising prices have pushed out some old-timers, but this neighborhood still gives its unique creative vibe. 

In the late 90s, this place was all about the NYC entertainment scene — arcade bars, bowling alleys with live music, and quirky events like drag shows in museums. But now, alongside these hangouts, there’s a quieter side to the neighborhood. People like wandering along the East River, looking for stylish deals at thrift stores, and savoring its diverse food scene.

1. Domino Park

Heard of Domino Park? It’s right by the water, next to the East River, where the old Domino Sugar Refinery used to be. It’s not too big, just about 5 acres, but stretches for about a quarter of a mile.

Besides the music scene, it’s also a fantastic bowling alley boasting 16 lanes. Plus, you can treat yourself to some tasty bites from Blue Ribbon food right there – all under one roof!

What’s neat is that Brooklyn Bowl is housed in a historic building from 1882, once a bustling factory.

4. Williamsburg Bridge

The Williamsburg Bridge, linking the Lower East Side of Manhattan with Brooklyn, is an iconic spot to check out. It’s been around since way back in 1903, when it was the longest one in the whole wide world! It held onto that title for over 20 years. 

Imagine this: the whole length of the bridge is a whopping 1,600 feet! And those towers you see at each end reach up to 310 feet high. 

5. Polish Food

In Greenpoint, a neighborhood close by, you’ll find lots of Polish food spots. It’s like a little Poland in Brooklyn, with many Polish folks living in North Williamsburg.

7. Ice Cream

There’s something special about Williamsburg and ice cream, like there are more ice cream shops here than anywhere else! 

Here you’ve got OddFellows with their creative flavors, Van Leeuwen serving up hipster vegan cones, and Republic of Booza with their unique stretchy “ice cream.” Just try it – it’ll be the coolest brain freeze experience ever!
