WHERE ARE YOU GOING?

You may have created an itinerary for the trip, or you might have chosen a resort to visit. You can hire a tour guide for the trip, and that person will take you anywhere you need to go. Plus, you may select a villa that gives you the security and ocean access that you want.

If you are going into the countryside, you need a tour guide who can take you where you want to go. You do not want to try to explore the jungles and villages of Brazil on your own.

PAY FOR ACTIVITIES AHEAD OF TIME

You can pay for activities ahead of time by transferring money to the tour guide, villa owner, or company that hosts your activities. You could send money to a business that you are visiting in the area, or you could send money to an office you run in Brazil.

Similarly, a friend can send money from the US to Brazil, and you will get the extra cash that is needed for extra expenses, special purchases, or activities you want to do with the family. You do not need to worry about running out of cash because your contacts back home can send you more money if you need it.

ARE YOU RENTING A CAR?

If you plan to rent a car, you need a full road atlas of the country that will help guide you. You will drive on the right side of the road, and you can drive in Brazil for up to 180 days on your country’s driver’s license. Make sure that you have your license with you, and get the insurance that will cover you in Brazil.

Some car insurance companies do not offer coverage to their customers when they are driving overseas. You should not drive on backroads without a guide, and you should not drive over the speed limit at any time.

WHERE IS THE NEAREST EMBASSY?

You need to know where the nearest embassy is. You can find a consulate or embassy that will help you should you lose your wallet or passport. The embassy is a safe haven for you and your family if you have lost your passport, and the embassy staff can help replace the passport for you.
Plus, you need to stay on the grounds of the embassy until you have a new passport. This is also important if you have been robbed. You want the embassy staff to help you reach out to the local police. The embassy staffers speak the local language, and they already know people who work in the community.

ARE YOU GOING TO TOURIST SPOTS?

If you are going to hike up to the statue of Christ the Redeemer that stands over Rio, you need to schedule a time to do so. You need to choose a time to visit the Copacabana beach when it is not crowded, and you should choose a weekday to venture into the middle of a city like Rio de Janeiro or São Paulo. Moreover, you need to know what the tourist spots are because that makes it easier for you to avoid traffic or the packs of people that crowd those areas.

You can create an itinerary for your trip, and you can pay for some of your activities ahead of time. Plus, you need to ensure that you have a contact back home that can send you extra money should you need it. You can use transfers to pay for your purchases ahead of time, or you can receive a money transfer from a local office that is close to your villa.
